DiPuccio Selected All-Tournament
Despite UTEP’s 0-5, fifth-place finish at the 2004 Lady Vol Classic, Renee DiPuccio was selected to the All-Tournament team Sunday afternoon in Knoxville, Tenn.
For the weekend, DiPuccio tossed 25.2 of 31.2 innings for the Miners with a 2.18 ERA. The Las Vegas, Nev., native opened the tournament with a 1-0 loss to Tennessee Tech on Friday, a game which saw her allow just one run on six hits, while striking out seven. DiPuccio followed that performance by giving up two runs on three hits in 5.2 innings against #12 Tennessee later that day. On Saturday, she allowed four runs in the second to Liberty, but settled down and allowed just four hits over the final four innings as UTEP’s comeback attempt came up short in the seventh, 4-3. In the first game against Gardner-Webb, DiPuccio hurled the final 3.2 innings without allowing a run and scattering three hits and in the finale she threw the final 3.1 innings giving up just four hits as the Miners fell 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh. DiPuccio is 6-12 on the season with a team-best 3.41 ERA. The Miners will return to conference play next weekend when it travels to Honolulu, Hawaii for a four-game series against the Rainbow Wahine. The first-two games of the series will be on Saturday, while the final two are scheduled for Sunday.
