Tennessee Tech Blanks Miners, 1-0




For the second consecutive game the UTEP Miner softball team could not manage a hit as it dropped a 1-0 decision to Tennessee Tech in the opening game of the Lady Vol Classic in Knoxville, Tenn.

UTEP (7-21; 0-2 WAC) stranded three runners in the game, Jennifer Garcia reached on a two-out error and Denise Emmons followed with a walk in the fourth, while Jawauna Davis struck out in the seventh but advanced to first as the pitch got past the Tech catcher.

The Golden Eagles (20-13; 6-2 Ohio Valley) got a complete game from starter Bonnie Bynum as she struck out eight Miners over seven innings. Tech got a one-out walk from Jennifer Markham in the top of the third and a two-out double from Samantha Lovelady, driving in Bynum for the game’s only run.

Renee DiPuccio (6-9) scattered six hits while striking out seven in the loss.

The Miners have now gone 16 consecutive innings without a hit and have not scored in its last 29.

UTEP will be back in action this evening at 6:00 p.m. as it takes on host No. 12 Tennessee at Tyson Park.
