UTEP Soccer Sweeps C-USA Player of Week Awards
Nov. 5, 2007
Jami Tullius and Brittany Popoff have been tabbed the Conference USA Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, after leading the Miners to wins against Rice and Houston that helped secure the No. 3 seed for the C-USA tournament which will be hosted by UTEP. Tullius scored three goals (including the game-winning-goal in the 1-0 win against Rice), while also registering an assist. Tullius has scored a C-USA leading 12 goals this year, while also pacing the conference in points (32) by a margin of seven. This is her first C-USA Offensive Player of the Week honor this year and second of her career. Popoff came through in the clutch this weekend for the Miners, posting back-to-back shutouts. Popoff registered eight saves on the weekend, leading the UTEP defense to its best performances of the year. She now has recorded a school-record-tying 18 shutouts in her illustrious career. This is the second Player of the Week honor of her career, and she becomes the second Miner goalie to be recognized this season. Popoff and Tullius will be back in action with the rest of the squad against Colorado College in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA tournament at 8 p.m.
