Miners Take To The Road To Wrap Up Regular Season

The UTEP soccer team is headed to the Eastern Time zone for just the second time in program history, as it squares off against East Carolina and Marshall this weekend.

The games mark the final two contests of the regular season, and plenty is on the line. The Orange and Blue have already secured a berth into the Conference USA tournament, Nov. 1-5 in Dallas, but their seeding is up in the air. Two wins would certainly go a long way toward giving the UTEP a high seed.

The Miners, 14-4 (5-2 C-USA), carry a five-match winning streak into the game against the Pirates. UTEP has played splendidly during that stretch, outscoring the opposition by a count of 15-4.

Overall, the Orange and Blue have amassed 51 goals on the campaign while limiting their foes to just 16 tallies. The Miners pace C-USA in scoring, checking in at 2.83 goals per game. They have also taken care of business defensively, recoding a school-record 10 shutouts.

UTEP, ranked 10th in National Soccer Coaches Central Region poll, is also making its presence felt on a national level. It boasts the No. 12 scoring offense, the No. 23 defense in terms of shutout percentage and the 25th-highest winning percentage.

Additionally, junior netminder Jessica Salvi ranks second in the nation in save percentage (.941) and 12th in the country in goals against average (0.43), while freshman midfielder Anoop Josan checks in fifth nationally in assists per game (0.72).

The match against ECU is slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff while the contest against the Thundering Herd will commence at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
