El Paso's Jami Tullius To Play Soccer At UTEP
El Paso native Jami Tullius signed a national of letter intent to play for the UTEP soccer program on Friday.
"Jami is a player in El Paso that we have been watching for the last three years," said head coach Kevin Cross. "She is going to make a difference in our program. We are fortunate to have her." Tullius, who is finishing her senior year at Eastwood High School, has been a soccer and basketball standout for the past four years at the school. A prolific scorer, she has collected 32 goals in the last three years in only 26 games. Tullius' time on the pitch has been limited because of duties with the basketball team. "We think she is going to get better playing soccer full time," Cross said. "She has a knack for scoring goals, which we want." She scored 14 goals and tallied six assists in only 10 games this past season for coach Mike Cataldi. Tullius was chosen to the All-District and All-City second team in each of her first three seasons at Eastwood. She did not have enough games played this season to qualify for postseason honors. As a junior she scored 11 goals and had six assists in nine games. She picked up seven goals and six assists in seven games as a sophomore. "She is going to bring scoring ability to UTEP," said Cataldi. "She has the ability to score two to three goals per game. She loves to play. She loves to compete. She is a player you want on your team." Tullius has also been one of the top prep basketball players in the city. She earned All-District and All-City honors in each of her four years. A outstanding student in the classroom, Tullius has been a two-time Academic All-District pick in both soccer and basketball. She additionally was named Academic All-State by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. |
