Tullius and Nordin Lead UTEP At National Collegiate Showcase
ALLEN, Texas Jami Tullius and Cara Nordin combined for three goals and an assist as UTEP earned a pair of victories in the National Collegiate Showcase at Celebration Park this weekend.
On Saturday, the Miners defeated reigning Mid-Continent Conference champion Oral Roberts, 1-0. Nordin, a rising sophomore who is UTEP’s returning scorer from a year ago with 24 points, scored the game-winning goal on a corner kick. In UTEP's second friendly of the showcase, the Miners came back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat Air Force, 3-1, on Sunday. Tullius scored twice in the first 15 minutes of the second half to give UTEP a 2-1 lead. The rising sophomore from El Paso scored her first goal unassisted while Nordin was credited with an assist on the game winner. Rising junior Kelli Yeamans added an insurance goal later in the half on a direct free kick. Following last weekend's split against Arizona and Northern Arizona, UTEP has now won three consecutive matches. UTEP will take a week off before playing its final two spring competition dates at home. UTEP will host an Alumni game on Thursday, Apr. 21 at 7 p.m. and the UTEP Spring Invitational three days later. Both events will be held at University Field. |
