Miners Tied For Second Place Through 18 at C-USA Championship

The UTEP women's golf team is tied for second place through 18 holes of the 2008 Conference USA Women's Golf Championship on Monday at Butterfield Trail Golf Club in El Paso. The Miners shot 303 as a team on Monday, tying their best round of the year. UTEP also fired a 303 over the opening round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on March 17 in Honolulu. Southern Miss leads the nine-team field with 301. UCF, East Carolina and UTEP are part of a three-way tie for second place (303 each). Tulsa is in fifth place (304), UAB sixth (306), SMU seventh (308), Memphis eighth (309) and Marshall ninth (316). Tulsa's Leisl Hasbrouck, Southern Miss' Clara Viladomiu and UAB's Jaime Brabb each shot an even-par 72 on Monday to tie for the individual lead. UTEP's Shang-Fan Huang and Deborah Martinez are tied for eighth place after carding a 75 each. The Miners' Liz Sobczak is tied for 14th place (76), Ana Pastor is tied for 19th place (77) and Rosana Gomez is tied for 35th place (80). The second round will be played on Tuesday beginning at 8:30 a.m. The final round will be played on Wednesday starting at 8 a.m. Admission is free to the event.
