Women's Basketball | 4/13/09
Coming into a year with the youngest team in the program's history, a challenging non-conference slate and donning a large target on its back throughout Conference USA play, nobody was quite sure what to expect from the 2008-09 UTEP women's basketball team.
As it turned out, it was business as usual for head coach Keitha Adams' squad. The senior-less Miners posted a record of 18-12, including 11-5 in C-USA action, en route to staking second place in the most competitive league in its history. The overall triumph total rates tied as the third highest in the school's history while the 11 league victories check in second at the institution.

The UTEP women's basketball team was dealt a gut-wrenching 72-70 overtime loss by Marshall in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA tournament inside Fogelman Arena on the campus of Tulane University Friday evening. The Thundering Herd's (17-14) Chantelle Handy filled up a jumper from the left baseline with four seconds in the extra session, and Jareica Hughes' desperation three-point try at the buzzer was errant.

The UTEP women's basketball team will be the No. 2 seed at the this week's Conference USA tournament (March 5-8), and it will take on the winner between Memphis and Marshall in a quarterfinal contest inside historic Fogelman Arena on the campus of Tulane University at 7 p.m. MST on Friday, March 6. The Miners (18-11, 11-5 C-USA) derailed the Tigers (12-17, 5-11 C-USA) on the road, 73-53, on Jan. 29 while they held off Marshall (15-14, 8-8 C-USA) 71-62 at the Don Haskins Center on Feb. 8, in the lone meetings on the year.
