Seventeen Miners to Graduate on Saturday
Seventeen UTEP student-athletes will graduate on Saturday, athletic department officials announced on Monday.
The list includes five former football players, the largest composition by sport. The second-largest contingent belongs to the track and field program, with three graduates. The women’s basketball, soccer and tennis programs have two graduates each. Headlining the list are All-Americans Bashar Ibrahim (track and field) and Sarah Paoletta (rifle). Ibrahim was a four-time All-American on the track, taking third place in the steeplechase at the 2003 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Paoletta was a two-time National Rifle Association All-American, and placed sixth in smallbore at the 2001 NCAA Championships. Other graduating student-athletes include football’s Jonas Crafts, a second team All-WAC tight end in 2004; women’s basketball’s Marta Dydek, who led the Miners in scoring this past season with a 10.0 average; tennis’ Kendall Exelby, a three-time Academic All-WAC honoree who ranks fourth in school history with 55 doubles victories; softball’s Jennifer Garcia, who ranks second on the team in batting average (.333); and soccer’s Amber Mack, who started 59 games for UTEP and helped the Miners to 40 wins over the last three seasons. Native El Pasoans who will be going through commencement procedures this weekend include Dirk Dillard (football), Omar Duarte (football), Marco Gallegos (track and field), Jose Horner (track and field) and Mike Perez (football). 2005 UTEP Athletics Spring Graduates
