The UTEP men's and women's cross country teams garnered their fifth straight Lori Fitzgerald Invitational titles as they hosted their first meet of the season at the Santa Teresa Country Club in Santa Teresa, N.M. The men garnered the top four finishes to end the meet with a near-perfect score of 16. The University of Houston came in second with 69 points, followed by El Paso Community College with 80 points. Patrick Mutai led the men with a time of 23:20.1, outrunning teammates Japheth Ng'ojoy and Stephen Samoei by three-tenths and eight-tenths of a second, respectively. Nicodemus Ng'etich followed with a time of 23:40.2. Other finishers included Dominic Tanui (6th, 24:18.6), Aggrey Chirchir (8th, 25:03.3) and Elias Koech (11th, 25:37.9). The women scored 23 points to take the meet, followed by New Mexico State with 51 points and El Paso Community College with 73 points. The team was led by Kelly Young, who bested her finish from last year with a time of 19:57 to take first. Freshman Brissia Montalvo placed fourth with a time of 20:02.2 to rank in the top ten for the second consecutive week. Other finishers for the women's squad included Laura Clark (8th, 20:21.3), Delia Cesar (11th, 20:37.1), Perla Retana (12th, 20:37.7), Crystal Garcia (13th, 20:44.2) and Megan Chojnacki (18th, 21:05.8)
