University Field
The home of UTEP soccer since its first season in 1996, University Field has been the site of many historic events during the history of the program. UTEP has chalked up 68 of the program's 120 all-time victories on its home field. The Miners have combined for a 68-24-4 overall record at the facility, which has been used by nearly 90 players in its 11-year history. That record stands at a mind-boggling 42-5 since 2002, which was aided by a 10-0 slate in 2006. In 1999, the addition of lights to the field made it possible for the Miners to play night games. On Thursday, Sept. 23 of that year, UTEP defeated Arizona, 4-3, in the first night game at the facility. In the spring of 2006, the facility received a $100,000 overhaul with a state-of-the-art drainage system, new sod, improved electrical wiring and refurbished light standards. Since Kevin Cross took over as head coach in 2001, attendance figures have increased. Over the past five seasons, UTEP has played before 13 crowds that surpassed the facility's 500-person capacity. The attendance record of 1,106 was set on Oct. 8, 2006, when UTEP defeated No. 17 Rice, 1-0. In 2004, UTEP's 80 percent capacity average of 400 per game led the WAC. The Miners paced Conference USA in attendance in 2006. The natural grass playing surface measures 120'x75' with player warm-up areas behind both bench areas.
