The Don Haskins Center

Haskins Center

Named after legendary UTEP men's basketball coach Don Haskins, the Don Haskins Center is among the top basketball facilities in the Southwest and Conference USA.

Built in 1976, the Haskins Center features a recently finished permanent hardwood floor, two modern locker rooms and training facilities, as well as the basketball coaches' offices. Also new are four scoreboards featuring updated statistics, accompanied by two video boards.

The comfy 12,000-seat arena offers fans an intimate view of the action on the court.

Since the 1991-92 season, the UTEP women's basketball team has called the Haskins Center home. The Miners have taken advantage of their home court, compiling a .569 (132-100) winning percentage in "The Don."

In 14 full seasons at the arena, the Miners have posted 11 winning campaigns and claimed 11 of 14 home openers. UTEP went a school-record best 16-2 at home in 2006-07.

Head coach Keitha Adams has made the Haskins Center one of the toughest places to play in Conference USA, with the Miners boasting a record of 43-16 since the 2003-04 campaign.

Over the years, fans at the Haskins Center have witnessed many thrilling buzzer-beaters and several record-setting performances. On Feb. 11, 1992, the Miners set a then-WAC record for attendance when 7,103 fans watched UTEP take on BYU. On Feb. 21, 2001, the Miners upset nationally-ranked TCU, 79-76. And on Feb. 19, 2005, point guard Shalana Taylor recorded the first-ever triple-double in UTEP basketball history (men or women).

The 2006-07 season had many special moments. The Miners went 16-2, including a program-best 12 straight victories. A school-record 7,212 fans passed through the turnstiles against Memphis on Feb. 10, 2007. The crowd was witness to history, as UTEP knocked off the Tigers, 80-58, to secure its program-best 19th victory on the campaign.

The multi-purpose facility is also home to several special events and union programs, including championship boxing, concerts, conventions, preseason NBA games, the Harlem Globetrotters, World Championship Wrestling, Royal Lipizzaners as well as the UTEP basketball teams. Acts at the Haskins Center in recent years have included Enrique Iglesias, Cher, Shakira, The Eagles, Matchbox Twenty, Santana, Rod Stewart, Luis Miguel, Juan Gabriel, Coolio, Aerosmith, the Scorpions, Ozzy Ozbourne and Vicente Fernandez.
